The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is the national association for regulatory agencies for nursing. NCSBN assists and supports boards of nursing to act together on matters of common interest and concern affecting public health, safety, and regulation. This includes the development of national nurse licensing examinations. Currently we are seeking an RN Test Development Associate for our Examinations Department.
Position provides collaborative input into the examination process in the design of NCSBN evaluation methods and identification of Member Board training needs. Coordinates recruitment of examination item development panelists including Panel of Judges, Differential Item Functioning panels, Sensitivity, and Standard Setting. Provides orientation and evaluation at individual sessions, dependent upon panel type. Performs examination item searches and item review as required and participates in item rework. Recruits participants for practice analysis panel for review of test plans. Gathers background data for practice analysis (review of literature, logs, interviews, etc.). Participates in survey development monitoring and review of results. Collaborates and participates in the development of report on practice analysis, applies findings to test plan and follows steps to achieve consensus on changes. Creates and makes publically available the new version of examination test plans. Provides support to special assignments related to content issues, including testing security, Web searches, item input, forms/document creation and maintenance and content representation during examination meetings. Participates in research as requested. Performs Web searches to update content as it applies to NCSBN examination items. Supports the NCSBN examination committees through production of reports on content issues and attendance at item development sessions. Reviews and discusses item validations prior to Item Review Subcommittee (IRSC) meetings. Monitors and updates internal documents and guidelines used for item review. Develop and present material for public speaking on behalf of NCSBN. Coordinates and presents at Examination conferences as assigned. Maintains NCSBN examinations outreach activities through internal and external publications including Council Connector, Leader to Leader, Examination Web site and journal articles. Minimal travel required. Performs other duties as assigned.
RN license in the state of Illinois required. Master of science in nursing with two years’ experience as clinical nurse specialist, nursing faculty member, or related position. Licensure / certification test development experience combined with professional writing and editing experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience is required. Strong presentation, organizational, problem-solving, communication and customer service expertise with great attention to details and deadlines required. Flexibility, team player mentality and ability to manage multiple priorities are essential. Technical expertise must include MS Office.
