Under direct supervision of the Clinical Research Nurse Manager the incumbent will coordinate phase I through III oncology research studies at Western Regional Medical Center (WRMC) and be responsible for maintaining and assuring protocol compliance for all patients.Collaborates with physicians/investigators in review of potential protocols, patient recruitment screening and determining protocol eligibility. Presents trial concepts and details to the patients, participates in the informed consent process, and enrolls patients on protocol. Coordinates patient care in compliance with protocol requirements. May provide teaching on investigational drug to patients and maintains investigational drug accountability. In collaboration with physicians/investigators, reviews patients for changes in condition, adverse events, concomitant medication use, protocol compliance, response/reactions to study drug, and thoroughly documents all findings. Responsible for accurate and timely data collection, documentation, and reporting. Schedules and participates in site-assessment, monitoring, and auditing activities as delegated by the Clinical Research Nurse Manager/Clinical Protocol Office Manager. Assists in completion and maintenance of regulatory documents in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP) and local WRMC regulations. Participates in required training and education programs. Provides clinical research education to local clinic staff. Ensures site research quality by practicing in compliance with WRMC policies, principles of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Assists with development of study tools including source documents and eligibility checklists and criteria cards. Possibly involved in the collection, processing, and shipping of protocol required lab specimens; maintains supply and equipment inventory (per protocol), maintain appropriate lab certification (i.e. IATA certification). Assist clinicians (LPNs, MAs, and/or RNs) as needed to ensure protocol-required pharmacokinetic draws, electrocardiograms, vital signs, premeds, IV start and IV discontinuation are performed per protocol (as applicable).
