The Sr Dir-Nursing lads and directs services, workflow and resources for assigned nursing area.
- Develops departmental goals and objectives consistent with medical, administrative, legal and ethical requirements of the health care delivery system.
- Directs clinical activities, including patient assessment, care plan development, service level determination, patient visits, and complaint management.
- Plans, organizes and directs all activities related to staffing, including hiring, orienting, evaluating and continuing education initiatives.
- Prepares and monitors budget(s) and ensures that assigned nursing area operates within allocated funds. Coordinates and directs internal and externally-driven audits.
Supports the professional practice model at the site and specialty level. Ensures compliance with standards of practice. Supports and advances shared governance structure. Collaborates effectively with organizational stakeholders. Drives accountability for compliance with external standards and regulatory bodies.
Collaborates with site executive leadership in the development of site strategic operating plans and with the regional management for nursing winning strategies, goals and objectives. Represents nursing in site medical executive committee or joint practice meetings. Develops strong, collaborative relationships with medical staff. Collaborates on developing specific strategies and objectives aimed toward achieving a culture of safety and aggressive associate injury reduction.
Develops clinical, financial and human resource measures to compare actual results for the department to set goals and objectives. Ensures development of enterprise-aligned, site and specialty specific programs to measure, analyze, and improve nursing care quality. Manages site resources to support quality patient care, services and patient safety. Supports use of available data/metrics to allocate resources appropriately. Develops and implements an appropriate succession planning strategy for key nursing leaders with site and specialty councils.
Ensures use of evidence and research to guide clinical and managerial decision-making. Aligns research priorities with nursing strategic objectives. Accountable for site level technology use to improve efficiency, reduce costs, enhance safety and communication.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience:
- Master's Level Degree, And,Minimum ten (10) years of successful nursing experience is required, to include five (5) years of leadership experience with a minimum of three (3) years of that leadership experience in departmental management.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Masters degree required.
- Either the Masters or the Bachelor’s degree must be in Nursing.
Licenses & Certifications:
- Nurse Executive-Board Certified is preferred.
- Current license to practice nursing as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Texas is required or must be obtained prior to hire or job transfer date.
