Summary of Job Duties
The Charge Nurse schedules, leads, and coordinates the daily activities of a defined unit on an assigned shift. This is carried out by directing and overseeing a team of nurses and support staff, ensuring adherence to appropriate federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines, SJCH policies, and accepted nursing protocols and procedures. Coordinates services with other patient care units to ensure patient flow and provides direct specialty nursing services and patient care as appropriate. Assists department director in accomplishing unit and organizational goals. Key components of the Charge Nurse role include Unit Operations, Leadership, Education/Mentoring, and Quality Safety.
Qualifications & Requirements
Charge Nurse Requirement: Able to effectively deal with: (1) Stress levels associated with caring for acutely ill patients and their significant others (2) Demands of maintaining successful working relationships with peers, managers, physicians, and other health care workers (3) Demands of successfully delegating responsibilities and supervising other health care team members (4) Situations that require strong critical thinking and decision making skills
Charge Nurse Requirement: Acute care experience (preferred)
