The registered nurse is responsible for assuring competent, compassionate, individualized nursing care for patients and families, including delegation to and supervision of non-professional and support staff. The registered nurse is responsible and accountable for the overall nursing care management of all patient types based on age-specific criteria. She/he collaborates with the Director and Manager and other members of the patient care team to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
PATIENT CARE UNIT:
This 43 bed unit oversees the care of a very diverse patient population including neonate to geriatric patients. This patient population represents a variety of acute and chronic conditions: medical-surgical patients with single or multi-system problems, stable coronary syndromes and other cardiac disorders including telemetry monitoring, hematologic and oncologic disorders as well as palliative care and hospice. Nursing staff are expected to be proficient in all areas of care.
· Quality of Care: Demonstrates competent nursing knowledge in all patient types and age groups to meet patient care needs/outcomes within legal and medical standards. Administers medications and performs treatments per policies and procedures.
· Displays and promotes professional, courteous, and cooperative interaction with hospital staff, patients/families, physicians and leadership in meeting patient care needs and promoting teamwork.
· Productivity: Practices timely, efficient and cost effective coordination of all aspects of care, as evidenced by: cost accountability (charges), consistently offers assistance to coworkers, changes priorities as patients needs change, is cross departmentally trained.
· Utilizes a plan of care to provide individualized, age specific, on-going, and comprehensive delivery of patient care within established policy and procedures as evidenced by chart audit.
· Assessment: Performs initial assessments, prioritizes patient care, reviews and revises data as appropriate.
· Patient care orders are implemented/delegated to appropriate staff immediately.
· Participated in unit, system, interdepartmental and community committees.
· Maintains confidentiality of patient, hospital, and staff information.
· Communication: Maintains constructive collaborative and accountable communication with patients, families, physicians, coworkers, and other members of the health care team to contribute to continuity of care.
· Attitude and Cooperation: Enthusiasm, willingness and positive attitude toward all departments. Adaptation and acceptance of change.
· Competencies: Keeps up competencies, documents reviews of modules and x-training assignments.
· Punctuality: Arrives to work on time, ready for report on the hour.
· Safety: Uses good body mechanics, documents Confidential Occurrence Reports (CORs) as necessary. Promotes patient safety, knows fire and disaster policies.
· Identifies and documents inter/intra departmental or system problems, sources of insufficiencies, and areas in need of process improvements.
· Follows universal precautions, appropriate isolation, and infection control policies by utilizing protective per policy.
· Demonstrates commitment to organizational values in daily communication activities as evidenced by feedback from peers, coworkers, physicians, and system/team leaders.
· Ensures JCAHO requirements are maintained by reviewing, updating, and developing policies and procedures as necessary.
· Evaluates patient responses to care as evidenced by nursing documentation.
· Quality: Participates in ongoing quality improvement programs to monitor and evaluate the care provided, the process of care, and the desired outcome.
· Continuing Education: Attends conferences/seminars annually.
· Attends/meets annual requirements (i.e. Environment of Care, vaccinations).
· Completes work in allotted time.
· Follow up and documentation of all discrepancies within 10 days as identified by CORs or the discrepancy forms (Medications, X-ray, Laboratory. EKG, Treatments).
· Accurately documents on medical record.
· Qualifications are current according to area of nursing care. Keeps current by maintaining nursing licensure and CPR certification.
· Attends monthly staff meetings.
· Contributes to orientation and training of personnel by acting as a preceptor.
· Demonstrates professional conduct and appearance and is accountable for actions and outcomes.
· Delivers excellent customer service by utilizing Relationship-Based Care to advocate for safety, patient preferences, and optimal communication through partnering with patients and families.
· Actively participates as a collaborative member of the health care team by communicating constructively, identifying clinical and interdepartmental problems, and resolving conflicts appropriately. Demonstrates ability to give and receive peer review and feedback and incorporates this into his or her practice.

· Licensure for Registered Nurse
· Current BLS from the American Heart Association
· Current ENPC and TNCC required
