- Position Summary: The apheresis nurse performs apheresis procedures on patients and donors in a professional manner, which focuses on the needs of the patient/donor and exemplifies the service excellence goals of care, concern, respect and cooperation. The apheresis nurse is responsible to the apheresis coordinator and the medical directors.
Required: Associates Degree
Preferred: Bachelors Degree
Required: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience
Preferred: 3-5 years of previous job-related experience
Required: CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation),Current Registered Nurse License State of Illinois
Preferred: Certified Heampheresis Practitioner (ASCP)
Position Responsibilities: Patient/Donor Assessment - Assesses patient/donor prior to, during and post procedures to assure safety at all times and consults with the medical director if necessary. Patient/Donor Care - Perform therapeutic/donor apheresis including: plasma exchange, therapeutic cytapheresis, stem cell collection, Photopheresis, immunoabsorption therapy, red cell exchange LDL Apheresis and allogeneic blood component collections. Professional Practice & Communication - Maintains a specialized skill and knowledge base to provide care which focuses on the specific needs of the patient/donor. Quality Improvement - Follows established quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and quality of donor screening and to insure proper operation of apheresis equipment. Regulatory Compliance - Adheres to regulatory standard, organizational and safety policies to comply with JCAHO, CAP, IDPH, FDA and OSHA guidelines. Performs routine maintenance duties to support the functions of the department.
