The nurse manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of the nursing unit. Specific responsibilities are unit staffing, management of payroll, employee evaluations and other duties as assigned. The manager embodies the behaviors associated with the Leadership, Art and Science of Nursing (identified in Duties and Responsibilities) at the proficient level. Performance is consistent with the Standards of Nursing Practice as designated by the Nurse Practice Act for the State of Texas.
Bachelors required. Masters preferred. One degree must be in Nursing.
Progressively responsible experience in a clinical setting for a minimum of 5 years.
Leadership experience preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED
Registered Nurse with current Texas license.
CPR certification and, for magnet designated hospitals in the system, an applicable magnet recognized certification must be obtained within 6 months (preferred at all other locations).
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Maintains knowledge base necessary to manage specific clinical area.
Computer skills: knowledge of hospital information systems and office applications.
