Job Summary: The Registered Nurse (RN) is a practitioner who is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for patients in the Clinical Cancer Center. This individual demonstrates competency in the coordination and delivery of care, including the infusion of chemotherapy and supportive care, to hematology and oncology patients. Other duties as assigned.
A minimum of 2 years of direct patient care in a medical/surgical setting is required. A minimum of 1 year of direct patient care in an oncology setting is required. Outpatient experience preferred. Infusion of chemotherapy is preferred.
Education: Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice at a level normally acquired through completion of a minimum of two years education at an accredited School of Nursing in order to be eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse is required. Bachelor of Nursing is preferred.
Licensure: Froedtert Chemotherapy certification required within 6 months of hire; OCN certification within 12 months of hire; Requires current state of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License or a Multi-state Nursing License from a participating state in the NLC (Nurse Licensure Compact).
Special Skills: Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice, particularly in a clinic setting. Ability to assess patients, set priorities, identify and resolve problems effectively and efficiently. Possesses excellent organizational skills for managing workflow, coordination of patient care, anticipating the needs of the patients and physicians, establishing and maintaining effective working relationship, etc. Demonstrates reliability and flexibility. Has the temperament for dealing with people who are ill and need help. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families or caretakers, physicians and others under stressful conditions. Contributes positively to patient satisfaction. Communicates effectively with patients over the phone or in person. Works effectively with physicians and clinic staff within a complex academic medical center. Accepts delegation of tasks. Positive role model.
