Job Description :
POSITION SUMMARY: To coordinate, implement, and provide restorative nursing care for all residents in the Center with the direction of the Nursing Department and in conjunction with Rehabilitation to maximize and maintain the physical functioning and emotional wellness of all the residents.
Oversees, directs, and participates in restorative programs initiated for individual residents;
Communicates on a frequent and ongoing basis with the Nursing and Rehabilitation Departments concerning goal setting and approaches to individual resident’s needs;
Assumes direct responsibility for facilitating the transition of each resident from skilled rehab services to the restorative progressive and preventative programs;
Attends rehab rounds and communicates to appropriate staff the status of all residents with regard to rehab/restorative needs;
Maintains restorative nursing progress/documentation records on all residents participating in any restorative program;
Visits each resident daily and/or as needed to assure that the program is appropriate and productive;
Trains primary care givers in restorative techniques and assists in providing that care;
Monitors all residents with ROM and T&P orders to ensure compliance of the order;
Instructs and assists primary care givers with the application of splints, braces, prosthetic appliances, and self-help devices to assure proper application and usage;
Directs and participates in all programs under the restorative umbrella;
Visits all new admissions to identify restorative needs and communicates those needs to appropriate personnel;
Assists in communicating with families concerning resident progress in care planning conferences or on a one to one basis with the family and the resident;
Spends time on all shifts as necessary to instruct and oversee restorative programs to ensure continuity of care;
Assumes responsibility to alert Nursing and/or Rehab of residents who may be experiencing a change in their level of functioning, which should be addressed;
Remains familiar and proficient with using wheelchairs, walkers, canes, lifts, scales, and other equipment used in the restorative programs and is able to instruct others in their use;
Puts Customer Service First: Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals' needs and rights;
Performs other duties as requested.
SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
A certified nursing assistant with experience and/or knowledge of restorative nursing philosophy and procedures.
Must be a self-starter, highly motivated and be able to work independently.
Must have the ability to direct and instruct others in delivering restorative care.
Must be able to read, write, and understand the English language.
Must possess the ability to positively interact with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
Must provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test.
PERFORMS RELATED DUTIES:
The Restorative Nursing Aide interacts with residents, families, visitors, Center and Genesis subsidiary personnel.
He/She carries out other tasks as requested in situations where hands-on intervention/participation may be required.
