Summary of Duties
SJCH is a values-based organization that acknowledges the American Nurses Association Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice, ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, and AACN Synergy Model as its framework of professional nursing practice. The goal of nursing care is to ensure safe passage with optimal outcomes across the lifespan. The art of nursing is based on a framework of caring and respect for human dignity (ANA, 2004)
Registered Nurses at all levels of experience use the nursing process to safely, therapeutically, and efficiently care for a group of patients. Day-to-day management and supervision of the related clinical activities fall within the area of the nurses responsibility and includes coordination of the interdisciplinary plan of care. The nursing process shall be documented for each hospitalize patient from admission through discharge. The Registered Nurse is responsible for supervising, delegating, and directing activities of unlicensed assistive personnel.
In addition, the Shift Lead Nurse schedules, leads, and coordinates the daily activities of a defined unit on an assigned shift. This is carried out by directing and overseeing a team of nurses and support staff, ensuring adherence to appropriate federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines, SJCH policies, and accepted nursing protocols and procedures. Coordinates services with other patient care units to ensure patient flow and provides direct specialty nursing services and patient care as appropriate. Assists department director in accomplishing unit and organizational goals.
