JOB SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Unit Manager, or Director, the Perioperative Nurse in SASS is responsible for the surgical nursing care of the pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric surgical patient. The Perioperative Nurse delivers care through the use of the nursing process in a manner that is cost effective without compromising quality of care. Expected practice behaviors include assessment, planning, implementation of surgery interventions, and evaluation. Assume charge duties as requested. Call coverage is assigned on a rotating basis. The SASS RN is cross trained to cover Endoscopy unit as indicated (at the discretion of the Unit Manager or Director).
Job Requirements (Core Competencies)
Education: Graduation form an accredited school of nursing with a MSN, BSN, AD, or Diploma plus a minimum
6 months previous medical surgical experience.
Experience: Nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation skills) as applied
to the care of the appropriate patient population. Principles of growth and development for the entire life-span with the ability to provide care appropriate for the pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients as appropriate to the patient population.
License/Certification: Current license as registered professional nurse in Colorado, American Heart Association BLS certification required within 90 day orientation period.
