Moffitt Nursing Director Honored by Florida Organization of Nurse Executives
Vicki Marsee, RN, MBA, NEA-BC, director of nursing systems at Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa, Fla., has received the Florida Organization of Nurse Executives Leadership Award for 2009. The award was presented to Marsee in May at the annual FONE Educational Conference in Gainesville, Fla. Read more »
South Florida Leaders Form Commission
The South Florida Commission on the Nursing Shortage, which is comprised of 16 executives in the healthcare and non-healthcare sectors, heads of academic institutions, and public sector organizations met at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale to consider strategies to bolster the region’s third largest generator of jobs. Bill Passes Requiring Clinical Labs to Accept ARNP Orders
SB 408 passed unanimously through the Florida House recently. The bill amends the statute which requires clinical laboratories to accept human specimens on the order of an allopathic or osteopathic physician, physician assistant, dentist, naturopath, podiatrist, or chiropractor to include orders from advanced registered nurse practitioners. ARNPs have been authorized to order laboratory tests under Florida law since 1996. Laboratory results from clinical laboratories are an integral part of the healthcare team’s ability to diagnose and treat. The Senate bill was passed in April in the Senate and House and was presented to Governor Charlie Crist in May. Read more »
