This course is due to be discontinued on July 11.  Please plan to finish it by July 10 if you wish to earn contact hours for it.  We have created a new course, 60039 "Infection Control for Nursing Licensure in Puerto Rico" that you can take instead. 

The goal of this program is to update nurses' knowledge about the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with tuberculosis (TB) and multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDRTB); hepatitis A, B, and C; and HIV/AIDS, as well as to review basic principles of infection control
and prevention.

 

After you study the information presented here, you will be able to —

  • Describe the precautions and isolation practices used in caring for patients with infectious diseases and the rationale behind these procedures.
  • Summarize the disease processes in TB and MDRTB; hepatitis A, B, and C; and HIV/AIDS.
  • Describe how TB and MDRTB; HIV/AIDS; and hepatitis A, B, and C spread and strategies for preventing transmission.
  • Identify risk factors for TB and MDRTB; hepatitis A, B, and C; and HIV/AIDS.
