The goal of this program is to enhance nurses' ability to identify and treat children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly who are victims of violence and abuse. The completion of this module is intended to satisfy Puerto Rico's three-hour continuing education requirement for nurses on the subject of domestic violence and abuse across patients' lifespan.

After you study this information, you will be able to -

• Define what constitutes abuse, maltreatment, and neglect, and identify the corresponding physical and behavioral indicators of domestic and adolescent dating violence and child and elder abuse.
• Identify at least two signs suggestive of physical or sexual abuse in children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly.
• Relate direct and indirect questions that broach the subject of violence and abuse with patients, partners, and family members, and screen for abuse.
• Identify risk factors and signs and symptoms associated with adolescent dating violence.
• List steps ensuring the safety of abused women who decide to leave an abusive environment.
• Outline the documentation processes and actions used to protect victims.
